Renewal by Andersen® replacement windows are not just for homes. In the following episode of At Home With Laurie, project manager Laurie March talks to the people behind Kidzeum and how Renewal by Andersen’s window replacement service helped create a beautiful learning environment for the downtown Springfield community.
Transforming a Historic Building
Kidzeum is a children’s museum located in downtown Springfield, IL, that opened in summer 2018. Before Kidzeum, the building was unoccupied for several years. While structurally sound, the building was equipped with inefficient windows, complete with metal frames and single pane glass, some of which were broken
In the video, Kidzeum project manager Janelle Fanning shares with Laurie how Renewal by Andersen rose up to the challenge with 54 custom built replacement windows. Each window is optimized for natural lighting, which not only helped Kidzeum save on their utility costs, but also helped create a pleasant learning environment. The window frames, as seen in the video, complemented the interior design. Kidzeum hopes that their work will help start changes in the local community.
How Renewal by Andersen® Helped Transform Kidzeum
The original building still had a sound structure, with window-lined exterior walls that allowed lots of natural light. The problem was the old and inefficient windows: during winter, heat would easily escape through the glass, which would have required higher output from the building’s heating system. During summer, sunlight streaming through the glass would have dramatically increased their indoor heating requirements. Thanks to Renewal by Andersen’s window and door replacement services, Kidzeum didn’t have to worry about such problems.
Renewal by Andersen replacement windows are equipped with double-pane, High Performance™ Low-E4® glass packages. The space between the interior and exterior surfaces act as an insulating barrier that prevents heat conduction. Low-emissivity coatings selectively block solar heat and ultraviolet (UV) rays while letting natural light inside. These features are complemented by the Fibrex® material frames. The resulting windows created a perfect balance of aesthetics and function that fit Kidzeum’s overall design.
